As a local firm committed to our community, KEMWest has provided technical assistance for Colorado's public and private schools subject to the 1987 Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) since its inception in 1996. These schools are required to have their facilities inspected for asbestos-containing building materials and to develop management plans to recommend and implement strategies to reduce the hazard from any asbestos that may be present.

We hold the health and safety of our school's students, teachers and staff in the utmost importance and KEMWest has a proven track record of working with school districts to protect these precious resources. Undamaged asbestos that is properly managed in place poses little health risk to students or teachers, but it is important to regularly inspect asbestos containing materials to ensure they remain intact because asbestos can pose a hazard to students, teachers, and school employees when it is disturbed and becomes airborne. In agreement with the EPA, KEMWest understands that undamaged non-friable asbestos is often best left undisturbed and managed in place.

In addition to asbestos consulting services, some of our core school related services include:

  • Mold and Moisture Assessment
  • Indoor Air Quality Assessment
  • Asbestos, Lead, and Radon Inspection Services
  • Abatement Design and Project Management
  • Environmental Site Assessments
  • OSHA Personnel Exposure Monitoring and Compliance Audits
  • Health and Safety Programs
  • Water and NPDES Sampling
  • Waste Characterization
